September is Recovery month. A great month to put on a recovery day event in Victoria. In celebration of Recovery Month this September, the Umbrella Society and New Roads Recovery (Our Place Society) are joining forces to present a revitalized and dynamic event focused on recovery. Recovery Day Victoria 2024 (RDV’24) will take place on Saturday, September 21st, at Central Park in Victoria, BC. This event marks the return of recovery celebrations to the province’s capital, the first since 2018. Nomad has collaborated with the Umbrella Society to organize an exciting event that aims to bring together our rapidly expanding community of artists. Our goal is to assist them in fundraising for a noble cause while also drawing a large crowd to the event.

This past month has been nothing short of incredible in the world of fashion, thanks to the expanded reach of Fashion Splash, which covered three distinct municipalities this year. The festivities kicked off in the heart of the City of Victoria, where we hosted the exclusive VIP Splash pre-party and launched our online auction. This set the stage for a month of style, creativity and community engagement.
We then transitioned to View Royal for the next phase of our fashion extravaganza: the thrilling runway show. This was no ordinary runway show, but instead a celebration of local talent, innovation, and design. With over 11 designers presenting their unique items on the runway, it was a feast for the eyes and a testament to the creativity and talent that thrives on our Island. Completing our fashion journey, we landed in Vic West for the final event: the Designer Art Market. This was where fashion met art, and the result was a stunning showcase of vision, craftsmanship, and style. These events do more than just celebrate fashion. They serve a dual purpose of elevating Vancouver's emerging fashion scene and raising much-needed funds for the Victoria Women's Transition House. This year, we outdid ourselves, raising just over $6000. This was our most successful year ever, and we are immensely proud of this achievement. We were thrilled to welcome over 220 guests at our events, making it the best-attended local designer show on the Island. The atmosphere was electric with excitement, admiration, and appreciation for the incredible talent on display. None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of our dedicated volunteers. From those welcoming guests at the front door to the models strutting their stuff on the runway, the hair and makeup artists making sure everyone looked their best, the setup and takedown crew ensuring everything ran smoothly, and our gracious MC keeping the energy high - every single person played a crucial role in our success. Fashion Splash is more than just an event; it's a testament to the power of community, creativity, and charity. We can't wait to see what next year will bring! The Fashion Designer Market is on February 24th from 10 am to 5 pm and on February 25th from 11 am to 4 pm at The Da Vinci Centre located at 195 Bay St. Donation at the door with proceeds going to the Victoria Women's Transition House
